CLEAN ELECTION: Chang churches not to make any deal in exchange for votes

Tuensang, May 17 (MExN): The three-day 30th Chang Theological Conference (CTC) held with the theme ‘Written with the Spirit’ concluded at Saksi Baptist Lashong, 3rd NAP, Tuensang on May 15.

During the conference, the CTC reaffirmed their stand on clean election. It resolved that the Chang churches will not make any deals/commitments with candidates in terms of seeking favours for church related activities in exchange for votes.

‘The churches will spread the message through the pulpit that candidates should entice voters through cash/kind, and at the same time no members in the congregation should ask or accept any cash/kind from the candidate for vote,’ it resolved. 

Further, “the churches will continue to speak about Clean Election and educate the congregation about their rights and responsibilities as citizens.” 

It also resolved to be thorough with the Word of God and preach with proper preparation and genuine conviction; CTC members will live out an authentic Christian life and not become a stumbling block for others; the Chang churches take Missions seriously and strive to become a sending church; All the church leaders and members of CTC should become the prophetic to speak boldly against the wrongs happening around them.

The conference speakers were Rev Achu Chang, Executive Secretary, CBLT, L Sungmo, Administrator, EMRS, Tuensang, Rev R Mangyang, IEM, Dimapur and A Jonathan, Coordinator, NMM along with devotional leaders, Chaangkhumal, Pastor, Nahalbari, Dimapur, Kaimang, Pastor, Chendang, Joshua, CE Secretary, CBLT, Mounglemla, APW, Khudei and Yonachoba, Pastor, New Chingmei. Altogether 313 CTC members attended the conference.

Rev H Sangkap, Pastor, TTBL and Anamong, Youth Secretary, CBLT presented a paper on, “Church response to clean election and its relevancy in Chang churches”, Rev Dr Wongtochingmak, Pastor, CBC, Dimapur presented two papers on, “Synopsis presentation on doctoral thesis” and “Social and cultural”. The moderators were Onen, APY, Kohima and Ayen Mongba, APY, Tuensang Village.

During the three-day event, members from nearby churches, BYE Sangtam Baptist Church, BYE Yimkhiung Baptist Church and BYE, Khimaniungan Baptist Church presented songs. Special songs were also performed by Imlong Theological College, Tuensang, Dimapur Area Theological Students and Yanchumong, Music Promoter, CBLT. Short speeches were delivered by President, Chang Gazetted Officers’ Association, Hongkin, Deputy Commandant, 3rd NAP, Tuensang, President, Chang Khulei Setshang, Council Chairman, C/Khel, Tuensang village and O Somba, Sector President.

A creative night programme featuring songs, stand ups and skits was also held which was hosted by Naro, APY, Naga United and Tolim, CE Director, Noksen.
