Condemnation and demands for justice pour in over murder of New Market GB

DIMAPUR, JUNE 8 (MExN): Organizations and individuals have voiced condemnation over the brutal murder of New Market GB Abdul Kayum Talukdar on the night of June 7 at Signal Bosti, Dimapur by unknown assailants and urged the law enforcing agencies to nab the perpetrators at the earliest.

The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD), while expressing sadness and shock “over the rearing of the devil’s head to create a situation of unrest and fear in the minds of peace and harmony loving people in Dimapur,” urged the law enforcing authorities to book the murderer (s) of late Abdul Kayum Talukdar at the earliest and award befitting punishment according to the law of the land.

It also appealed all the communities residing in Dimapur to maintain the “unwavering bond of peace and harmony as before” and not to let this incident sow seeds of enmity and hate against one another.

The Tangkhul Union, Dimapur (TUD) said it was saddened to witness the perpetration of such crimes in the society when established procedures of law and order are already in place. It reminded that such unfortunate incidents (killings) have never been the cure for any societal problems.

Rather than solve or control any given issue, resorting to such acts only multiplies and accentuates existing problems, it stated and appealed the law enforcing agencies for proactive and immediate action in nabbing the culprits which will also double up as an enduring deterrent in preventing such heinous offences in the future.

MLA & Leader of the NPF Legislature Party, Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu voiced concern that committing such heinous crime not only tarnished the good image of the state and society but also a disgrace and a shame.

Azo said it undermined the image of a civilized society and also the existence of government and law enforcing agencies in general.

“No matter which community he/she may belong, a life is a life and it needs to be protected. I stand in solidarity with late Abdul Kayum Talukdar bereaved family members and the Muslim community at large,” Azo stated.

Advisor for Labour, Employment & Skill Development, Excise, Moatoshi Longkumer said such barbaric act of violence disrupts the values of peace and harmony, and also threatens the very fabric of the society. “We must stand against such brutality and work together to create a safe and just community for all. In this time of grief and outrage, let us come together as a community to support one another and uphold the principles of justice and peace,” the Advisor stated.

The perpetrators must be brought to justice to restore a sense of security and trust within the community, he added.

The Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) said such act of barbarism perpetrated on the victim is in no way acceptable in a civilized society where we ardently strive for peace and harmony.

It is imperative now more than ever to come together for a common cause and condemn such inhumane act in an environment where for long we have yearned for peace and fraternity, the WSYF said while adding that such heinous crime should not transition into ambiguity and complacency but dealt with seriously.

The NPF Minority Wing said such inhuman act and killing in present civilization is highly condemnable by one and all. Terming late Talukdar as one of the eminent GBs in Dimapur New Market area appointed by the State Government, the NPF Minority Wing has urged the authorities to leave no stone unturned and investigate the matter in best possible ways to unveil the motive behind the killing.

The Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum said it was very disheartening to hear of such kind of inhumane incidences happening right here in our city Dimapur. When even a Goan Bura , the ‘Head Man’ of an area(Village) can be murdered (shot at) openly in a bazaar area, where will the sense of security of a common man be, it questioned.

The Forum also appealed to all concerned to never take up violence of any sorts in any case but rather try to sort out any differences if there are between any parties through proper dialogue. Also no one has the right to take up violence against anyone be it from any community or tribe, it added.
