Ahead of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra (BJNY) or India Justice and Unity March movement led by the Indian National Congress leader Rahul Gandhi which is set to begin on January 15, a press conference was held in Kohima at Congress Bhavan today.
The movement will commence from Imphal and end on March 20 in Mumbai, which is set to be span across India with the aim to enhance party's electoral engagement for the upcoming national elections.
The press conference was attended by Mathew Anthony, National spokesperson and national media Co-ordinator incharge of Northeast India; Ranajit Mukherjee, AICC Secretary incharge of Nagaland; S Supong Meren Jamir, President, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee; Capt GK Zhimomi, Vice President, NPCC and Chairman BJNY-Nagaland Committee; and Seyie Sachu, ex-candidate from 11-Northern Angami -2.
The officials informed that preparations for the yatra are set in the state, and Congress leaders are set to hold the campaign in Nagaland on January 15, a day after inaugurating the campaign in Imphal, Manipur. In Nagaland, the campaign will begin in Kohima and reach five other districts in two days.
After releasing the pamphlets of BJNY, Congress party members addressing the press conference here said various matters will be taken up and highlighted to the general public during the campaign which will focus on political, economical and social issues.
Highlighting 10 main issues that it has compiled, the Congress said that the yatra would address issues relating to fighting against injustices such as unemployment, inflation, discrimination against weaker sections, public health, issues related to farmers among others.
The officials said that 10 years of grave injustice by the BJP government has several hurt the people, democracy and unprecedented unemployment has completely shattered the dreams and future of youths.
The Congress said the Modi led BJP government does not want India to see the reality but "India has now realised that it shall raise its voice, together in a powerful manner” in the forthcoming 2024 elections through the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
