Two sisters—Jane and Genevi Dukru would observe children in their neighbourhood in Pfütsero going over to each other’s homes to work on school projects. “Having no other places to go for group projects, these children would often gather at one child’s place and we saw that this is not very convenient,” the sisters said.

This is when they felt the need to create a space for students, young people, working professionals or anybody who needs a place to study, read books, work or engage themselves in group projects and meetings. Terence & Lucy’s Study Cafe is a first of its kind in the state, with books of different genres stacked in the nicely made shelf for people to pick and read in the perfect ambience that the study cafe provides.

Genevi Dukru related to The Morung Express that “this would be more like a personal space for students to come and do their project work, have small meetings, or for young working professionals to work. It’s not exactly a library but we also want to encourage the culture of reading and it is open to everyone.”

Through this newly opened venture, Jane Dukru wants to give hope for children.

“Even our MLA Neiba Kronu is trying to beautify Pfütsero and set it as an exemplary town for others. So having a study cafe like this will help Pfütsero be well recognized,” they said.

While understanding the risks of this new concept here, they expressed confidence that “it will be highly beneficial to the citizens of Pfütsero.” “Many may think it is not a great idea to open a study cafe in a small populated town, but we are hopeful it will serve a great purpose,” they added.

Terence & Lucy Study Café is charging a minimum fee of Rs 20 per hour for students below class 10, Rs 40 for higher secondary and college students, and Rs 50 for others. The café offers a calm and clean space with good amenities. It also comes with free WiFi and a mini coffee and snacks bar.

It has also collaborated with a local publishing house for holding poetry readings, author talks/meets, book signings and other literary activities while tying up with Project72 for art workshops.

Earlier in May 2019, Genevi Dukru turned her childhood passion for food into a career through her maiden venture- Terence & Lucy’s, introducing new food culture to the people of Pfütsero with T&L Korean Special menu. She had previously studied Automobile Engineering from the Vision University College of Jeonju, South Korea.

The eatery as well as the study cafe are named after their parents whose names are Terence and Lucy, and dedicated to them for all the sacrifices they made in raising 9 daughters and 1 son.
