Prof Jagdish Mukhi on visit to Aspirational District Kiphire

Governor of Nagaland and Assam, Prof Jagdish Mukhi is on a two-day visit to Kiphire to review and assess the overall status of ‘Aspirational District’ programme.
On his arrival at Kiphire district headquarter on Wednesday, the Governor held an interaction session where he noted that “civil society organisations (CSOs) play a crucial role by putting checks and balances on the activities of the government at any level for the welfare of society.”
Sharing his observations, Governor Mukhi said that “in Nagaland, tribals are well aware of their own rights and share concerns about any deficiencies that permeate the society.” He also said that after taking charge as Governor, he chose to visit Kiphire first because he wanted to seek the opinion and suggestions of the people, in order to review and asses the Aspirational District programme for the progress and development of the district.
Urging upon the CSOs to contribute and work towards the growth and welfare of the society, he said that in western countries, people depend on their government to do everything for them. However, here in India, a dominant role is been played by CSOs and people in the welfare of society.
Appealing to the people not to expect everything from the government, he stated that society is much bigger than the government and emphasized on developing one's mentality so that all things will fall in place.
Welcoming the role played by the CSOs in taking part in development, the Governor maintained that his purpose for visiting Kiphire was to listen to the voice of the people and see what can be done to develop the Aspirational District. He also assured the CSOs and the people of Kiphire that Kiphire would be pulled out of backwardness within 12-14 months.
Meanwhile, the United Sangtam Likhüm Pümji (USLP) and Akehda Sangtamlaru Thsingmujung (AST) who took part in the interaction session informed the Governor that the Aspirational District programme has remained only in paper as no real development was seen on the ground. In this connection, the two organizations urged upon the Governor to ensure the programme was properly implemented so that Kiphire can develop at par with the rest of advanced districts across India.
The USLP also requested the Governor to set up a Nursing Training Institute and introduced Science and Commerce streams of education in Kiphire to augment the development deficit facing the district.
On the sidelines of the interactive session, the USLP, the AST, the Tikhir Tribal Council and the Kiphire town GBs also submitted representations to the Governor.
Earlier, the Governor also visited Zisaji Presidency College and interacted with the students.
According to an update from the state DIPR, the Governor, in his meeting with the heads of offices, encouraged them to take pleasure in discharging their duties and deal with the people politely.
“With the resources available in our hands, if our officers decide that we have to come up, nobody can stop us and the District from coming up to the top,” it quoted the Governor as saying while adding that officers have to do justice to their jobs in order to have mental satisfaction.
Various presentations pertaining to governmental activities for the Aspirational District were presented by the District Education Officer, Chief Medical Officer, EE (PHED), District Agriculture Officer, Sericulture Department and District Administration, which was followed by interaction with the departments, the DIPR report stated.
Delivering the welcome speech, Kiphire DC T Wati Aier is said to have briefed the Governor on the potential that district offers in terms of eco tourism and adventure tourism, considering the terrain and various topographical features.
