The Dimapur Night Carnival came to a successful close on Sunday night. It was jointly organised by the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Business Association of Nagas, East Dimapur Business Association in association with the Dimapur district administration to catch the festive mood of December.

The 7-day long Carnival at the Naga Shopping Arcade (Super Market) started on December 11. Despite a slow start owing to unseasonal rain interest picked up with the weather improving. The final night was a rush as droves of visitors jostled for space at the venue, while a fashion show added glamour.

The organising committee have maintained that the basic idea of the Carnival is to promote entrepreneurship among the youth besides being a source of family entertainment during the intervening days after the Hornbill Festival and Christmas. Over 200 entrepreneurs set up shop at the venue offering a potpourri of entertainment, including food.

The festivity was interspersed with daily performances from local artistes.

Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) Neiphiu Rio capped off the Carnival attending the final evening’s festivity as the chief guest. Rio said that the Dimapur Night Carnival, which started as a commemorative event on account of the 50th Nagaland statehood anniversary in 2013, has gone on to be a highly anticipated annual affair. While terming it as encouraging, he said that the Carnival besides promoting local entrepreneurs should also be a platform for different communities to come together.

“Dimapur is known as a miniature India. It is upto us to build the city. We need to create an atmosphere devoid of fear and (strong) rule of law so that the place attracts investors.”

He further expressed confidence that Dimapur would grow with the people’s support, which would in turn aid Nagaland’s progress.
