The Dimapur Lotha Sudents’ Union (DLSU) will be commemorating the 50th year of founding in October, this year.

Announcing this at a press conference, today, the Golden Jubilee Organising Committee informed that it will be celebrated under the theme Envisioning Radiant Posterity. 

In the lead up to the event, it informed that the Organising Committee will be collecting articles from members to be published in the jubilee souvenir. In this regard, it informed those wishing to contribute articles, both in English as well as in Lotha vernacular, to contact the jubilee Magazine Secretary, Julli Yanthan, at phone number 8131917422. It added that the last date of submission of articles will be August 31. 

According to the Convenor of the Organising Committee, Mhachio Lotha, the DLSU, as it is known today, took seed in the 1960s when a group of Lotha students from the only college in Dimapur at the time mulled the idea of forming a students’ body. It officially took shape in 1972 with the founding members, led by Rainbow Lotha as President and Nyamo Z Yanthan as General Secretary, taking office. It recalled that the from a few members in the early years, the DLSU has to grown from strength to strength to having a membership of roughly 20,000 students at present. The present team is led by Benthungo Jungi as President and Micheal Yanthan as General Secretary.
