Chümoukedima, February 19 (MExN): The Office of the Deputy Director, State Horticulture Nursery, Chümoukedima conducted a series of training programmes on oyster mushroom cultivation, floriculture and other important aspects of horticulture under the sponsorship of the Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (MoA&FW), Government of India (GoI), Medziphema.
According to an update, the training programmes were organised across eight different villages and locations under Dimapur and Chümoukedima districts to ensure wider outreach and capacity building among farmers, rural youth and interested entrepreneurs.
The locations covered included 4th Mile, Padumpukhuri, Sewak, 5th Mile, Shozukhu, Medziphema, Chümoukedima and the State Horticulture Nursery, Chümoukedima.
The training focused on scientific cultivation practices of oyster mushroom, nursery management, floriculture techniques, flower arrangement and integrated horticultural practices aimed at income generation and livelihood enhancement.
During the programmes, trainees were provided with training materials, practical demonstration sessions and hands-on exposure. Mushroom cultivation kits, floriculture inputs, planting materials, seeds and other essential horticultural tools were also distributed to participants to encourage adoption of the technologies at the field level.
The initiative is expected to promote sustainable horticultural development, enhance nutritional security and create income-generating opportunities for farming communities across the two districts.
The Office of the Deputy Director, State Horticulture Nursery expressed gratitude to the Central Institute of Horticulture, Medziphema for sponsoring the programme and reaffirmed its commitment to continue organising such capacity-building trainings for the benefit of farmers and stakeholders in the region.
