Govt notifies jurisdiction for three new districts

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 20 (MExN): The Governor of Nagaland today issued official notice on creation of 3 new districts of Tseminyu, Niuland and Chümoukedima, along with the reorganization of Dimapur district. Three notifications, issued by the Home Department, informed on areas that fall under the new districts.

Jurisdiction of the new Tseminyu district shall comprise of existing Tseminyu Sub-Division under Kohima district. Similarly, jurisdiction of the new Niuland district shall comprise of the existing Niuland Sub-Division under Dimapur District.

Meanwhile, the new Chümoukedima district with headquarters at Chümoukedima would comprise of existing administrative area of Medziphema Sub-Division; existing administrative area of Dhansiripar Sub-Division; and administrative area of Seithekema EAC Circle, under Dimapur District, covering 37 villages and towns. (See Table 1)

In another notification, the Home Department informed that consequent upon the creation of Chumoukedima District, and up-gradation of Niuland Sub-Division to a full-fledged District, Dimapur district would now consist of the existing Dimapur Sadar area and 19 town and villages earlier covered under Seithekema EAC Circle. (See Table 2)

Incidentally, while the notifications for creation of Tseminyu and Niuland districts stated that the sub-divisions are upgraded with “immediate effect,” the notifications on creation of Chümoukedima did not mention any specific dates.
Further, there was no clarity on the boundary demarcation between Dimapur and Chümoukedima.

A legislator confirming the ‘Notifications,’ on condition of anonymity, said that the boundary demarcation would be left for later. While maintaining that there are no “major issues,” he said, “The boundaries are not finalised as of now. They will launch the districts first and then start the process.”
