Handicraft artisans trained on export promotion, design development

Kohima, November 19 (MExN): Two-day seminar/workshop on Export Promotion, Marketing and Design Development for Comprehensive Development of North Eastern Handicrafts was held in the conference hall of Holiday Oki, Kohima.   Organized by Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts, New Delhi under NERTPS (North Eastern Region Textile Promotion Scheme), it was sponsored and supported by the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) under the supervision of Marketing and Service Extension Centre, office of DC (H) Kohima.  

40 artisans of mixed crafts like cane & bamboo, textiles and wood carving were present at the seminar, which aimed to create awareness about the growth of handicrafts among the artisans of Kohima using the different schemes of DC (H) as well as design inputs shared to them by the EPCH designers.  

The Assistant Director (Handicrafts) T Rollee Vareishim of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles highlighted the importance of empowering the youth and artisans through handicrafts schemes from the Ministry of Textiles DC (H), informed a press release.  

Artisan’s card applications were also distributed and its importance was discussed. Designer Mofidul Hussain explained about the knowledge and aspects of the design development of cane and bamboo crafts and also gave information of packaging of products required for export, the release added. Dhruba Jyoti Barman explained about the different fairs organized by EPCH as well as discussed about the export marketing and the ways of doing export.  

Meanwhile, Rakesh Kumar, ED Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts informed that the objective of the seminar was to make the primary producers, artisans, craft persons, SHGs, NGOs, and small entrepreneurs learn about the export, design development and adopt new technology for design up-gradation to compete in the international market.
