Hoist ‘original’ Naga National flag on August 14, NNC/FGN to NSF

Dimapur, August 6 (MExN): The Naga National Council/Federal Government of Nagaland (NNC/FGN) today welcomed the NSF’s decision to commemorate the 73rd Naga Independence by hoisting Naga National Flag at Naga Solidarity Park in Kohima on August 14.

However, it suggested the Naga Students Federation’s (NSF) to hoist the “original” Naga National flag. The flag was  first “hoisted on March 22, 1956 at Parashen, Rengma Region by proclaiming the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) by our people,” stated a press release issued by Captain (Rtd) Yirei Lungleng, Rali Wali Kilonser, FGN.

“This is a just and wise decision to take at this crucial juncture,” it said while conveying the appreciation to all the leaders and members of the NSF from the Ministry of Rali Wali, FGN, on behalf of the NNC/FGN.

“The Ministry assures to support and supply to NSF the relevant historical documents of the Nation including the background and significance of our National flag,” it added.

The release also recalled that AZ  Phizo, former NNC President and ‘father of the Naga Nation,’ who in his letter dated December 1, 1983 written to NSF said: "The future of our country belongs to the youth and I have no doubt that our youth will respond to the challenge of defending the country."

"Because of its size, a big country does not have the right to invade a small country. I am absolutely certain that we shall win because the right is on our side."
