Kohima, March 23 (MExN): A two-day international seminar on “The Tribal Society of North-East India: Literature, Culture and Traditions” was organised by the Department of Hindi, Kohima Campus of Nagaland University in collaboration with the ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun on March 19 and 20.
The seminar, conducted under the guidance of Organising Secretary Dr Brijesh Kumar, comprised multiple sessions, including inaugural and valedictory programmes along with academic presentations.
The inaugural session was attended by Vice-Chancellor Prof Jagadish Kumar Patnaik as chief guest. Guests of honour included Prof K G Suresh and Prof Heinz Werner Wessler. Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof N Venuh attended as special guest and delivered an address, while the welcome address was given by Prof Jano S Legise. The seminar was chaired by Dr Vituolenuo Lydia Dzuvichu.
The valedictory session on March 20 had Shashank Shekhar Singh as chief guest. Padma Shri awardee Dr Birendra Kumar Singh Sanjay attended as special guest, while Prof Mausumi Guha Banerjee delivered the keynote address. Michael Thomas from the United States also participated as a speaker. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Brijesh Kumar.
During the seminar, academicians including Prof Sushil Kumar Sharma, Prof Brijesh Pandey and Dr Harish K Tiwari delivered lectures on various themes related to tribal literature, culture and traditions.
The seminar comprised six academic sessions, with faculty members, research scholars and students from India and abroad presenting papers on diverse aspects of tribal society in Northeast India. The programme witnessed active participation and engagement throughout.
The organising secretary stated that the seminar was a collaborative effort of faculty members, scholars and students of the Department of Hindi, led by Head of Department Dr Munni Choudhary, along with Dr Ravi Ranjan Kumar and Dr Anuj Kumar.
