Dimapur, October 8 (MExN): Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) handed over a newly extended first-floor classroom facility at Government Primary School, Kevijau Colony, and 40 solar lights to Padum Pukhuri village in Dimapur on Thursday under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
The classroom facility was taken up to strengthen the school’s infrastructure and provide an improved learning environment for students, while the solar lighting project was aimed at improving community lighting and safety.
Deputy Commissioner Dimapur Dr Tinojongshi Chang, who attended both programmes as chief guest, appreciated IOCL’s continued support to Nagaland through CSR initiatives in education, healthcare and community infrastructure.
Speaking at the handover of the school facility, Chang said IOCL had undertaken several CSR activities across the state, including in the health sector. He said the district administration and people of Dimapur looked forward to continued support from the corporation in education, healthcare and infrastructure.
He also recalled his association with IOCL officials since 2023 and the discussions on development needs in Kevijau Colony.
ED & State Head, IOAOD SO, Nitin Bhatnagar said IOCL was committed to undertaking meaningful initiatives in communities where it operates. Recalling a meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office around two years ago, he said the need for development support in Kevijau Colony had been discussed and IOCL had subsequently taken up the request.
Bhatnagar said Dimapur hosts important IOCL facilities, including its depot and LPG plant, which supply petroleum products, diesel and LPG across Nagaland. “Nation First” remained one of the corporation’s core philosophies, he said, adding that it was important for IOCL to contribute to community development with the support it received from local communities.
He said IOCL considered requests from villages and communities in Dimapur and other parts of Nagaland subject to its CSR guidelines and priorities. Its CSR initiatives cover areas including education, healthcare, infrastructure development, and women’s livelihood and empowerment.
At Padum Pukhuri, Chang described the colony as one of the best-performing colonies in Dimapur and encouraged residents to identify suitable projects and make use of opportunities available under CSR initiatives.
He also urged residents to properly maintain the solar lights and ensure that the facilities remained functional for a long period.
DGM (Operations), IOAODSO, Guwahati, Dipak Pathak said the solar system installed under the project was worth around Rs 40 lakh and did not require major maintenance. He urged the beneficiaries to take ownership of the assets and ensure their proper upkeep. He assured that IOCL’s management and teams would remain available to support the community with its basic needs, social activities and other requirements.
The programmes included the formal handover of the completed classroom facility to the Government Primary School and 40 solar lights to Padum Pukhuri village.
