It’s a hat trick! Manipur wins 3rd North East Games 2024

The 3rd North East Games 2024 came to a spectacular close here at the Games village, as Manipur contingent took home the coveted trophy after emerging as the overall champion.Cementing their legacy as the champions of the first two editions, Manipur won a remarkable total of 130 medals, including 52 Gold, 38 Silver, and 40 Bronze.The champion athletes showcased unparalleled skill and determination, securing their status as the powerhouse of North-eastern sports.

Host state Nagaland, with an impressive performance throughout the event, fought heroically to claim the second position in the medal tally, securing a total of 134 medals. With 48 Gold, 42 Silver, and 44 Bronze medals, Nagaland’s ascent from the top 5 in previous games to the top 2 in the 3rd North East Games reflects the remarkable sportsmanship and growth of sports in the state.

Meanwhile, Assam displayed commendable resilience and skill, securing third with a total of 139 medals. With 43 Gold, 44 Silver, and 52 Bronze medals, Assam’s journey to the top spot was intense until the very last game, demonstrating the competitive spirit and dedication of their athletes. In addition to the medal tally, special recognition was awarded to outstanding individuals and states for their exemplary contributions to the games. 

The ‘Fair Play Trophy’ was awarded to Sikkim for displaying exemplary sportsmanship and conduct throughout the games. Meanwhile, Tripura bagged the ‘Spirit of Olympic Trophy’ for embodying the values of sportsmanship, unity and excellence. 


The ‘Outstanding Sportswoman Award’ went to Tsuchoi T from Nagaland. She won four gold medals in athletics in the events of 5000 metres, 10,000 metres, mixed relay race and women’s cross country team. Tsuchoi further secured two silver medals in the women’s cross-country and 4x4 100 rally events.Undisputed Naga wrestling champion, Venuzo Dawhuo clinched the title—Outstanding Sportsman. Dawhuo made history by winning gold medals in two different sports disciplines, namely shot-put and discus throw. He also secured the gold medal in belt wrestling in the 100+ category.

As the six-day exhilarating games came to a significant close, the flags of the North East Games, the Nagaland Olympic Association and the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, government of Nagaland were lowered, as per tradition.The closing ceremony was graced by the President of World Alysh Federation, Adilet Bayaman Uuluas the chief guest, who wished everyone long life and happiness.Each athletewere commended for their hardwork, dedication and excellence in the games.

Host stateNagaland extended congratulations to all the participating states for their exemplary sportsmanship and unwavering commitment to excellence. “As we bid farewell to the 3rd North East Games, let us carry this spirit forward until the next edition, Stronger Together,”the official statement read.
