JVC appeals for relief to farmers

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 31 (MExN): The Jalukieram Village Council (JVC) has appealed to the Nagaland State Government to extend any possible help through natural calamities/natural disasters scheme for unanticipated soil erosion due to incessant rain and flood and eventual damage of crops.

A press note from the JVC informed that this summer starting from July to August 2017, incessant rain had affected farmers who mainly depend on agriculture for their livelihood. The heavy rain and flood damaged crops worth up to 25000 to 30000 tins (locally used measurement). This was compounded by the frequent occurrence of land slide and soil erosion, resulting in loss of cultivated land belonging to around 40 farmers, it informed.

The loss and damage is expected to have been worth around Rs 3500000/ which in turn would adversely affect the villagers, it added. The JVC asked the Administrative officer to depute officers or personally investigate or verify the spot and take up proper action for the welfare of the affected farmers.
