Kadyr Kelsinbekov from Kyrgyzstan today emerged the champion title of 16th Hornbill International Naga Wrestling Championship 2023 held at Chiechama in Kohima district.
In final bout, Kelsinbekov defeated Chakhesang wrestler Huluyi D Vadeo and awarded with Rs 1,20,000 while the later received with Rs 80,000.
Angami wrestler Kezhaseluo-o Pienyii bagged 3rd position while another Chakhesang wrestler Venu Vadeo stood 4th position. They pocketed Rs 40,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.
Altogether 40 wrestlers joined the championship.
Arunachal Pradesh’s Chief Minister Pema Khandu graced the occasion as the chief guest with Nagaland’s Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio as the host.
Earlier, Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) President Dr Hiabe Zeliang delivered presidential address while NWA Joint Secretary Amos Pame administered oath to the wrestlers.
The event was managed by NWA and sponsored by Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland as part of Hornbill Festival 2023.
