Dimapur, October 9 (MExN): A person abducted at gunpoint from Karbi Anglong district was rescued by Nagaland Police from Kuhuboto area, Dimapur with one suspected NSCN (K) Nikki cadre arrested in connection with the case, police said on Friday.
According to a statement issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime)/PRO, Dimapur, information was received from Assam Police on October 7 at around 9:30 pm that one person was forcibly abducted at gunpoint from Lama Bosti, Khatkhati, Karbi Anglong, Assam, by unidentified miscreants, and that the victim was suspected to have been taken to the Dimapur area.
Acting on the information, a police team headed by the Officer-in-Charge of East Police Station was activated to trace the victim, and an elaborate operation was launched, the statement said.
At around 1:30 am on October 8, one suspected person was apprehended near the divider of the 4-Lane Highway in the Kuhuboto general area. “While causing apprehension of the suspect, some shots were also fired by the other abductors and taking advantage of the same managed to flee in the cover of darkness,” police said.
The apprehended person was brought to East Police Station for questioning, during which he was identified as Kivito Aye (32), SS 2nd Lieutenant of NSCN (K) Nikki. Interrogation revealed that the abduction was carried out by around six to seven individuals, the statement said.
Following a brief interrogation of the apprehended person, the victim was located and rescued from the Kuhuboto area.
After completion of necessary formalities, the victim along with the apprehended person was handed over to Assam Police for further investigation, the statement added.
