Kiphire: Gale damages houses, property in Yingshikiur village

Several houses including the village school and Sub-centre have reportedly been damaged by gale or strong winds in Yingshikiur village, Kiphire on Sunday afternoon.

Located a few kilometers away from the Kiphire district headquarters, Yingshikiur village received strong winds at about 3:00 pm on May 8, which lasted for about half an hour. Apart from the houses, two vehicles and some other village property were also damaged.

The Kiphire District Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KTCCI) are said to have visited the village, and handed over cash amounting to Rs 20,000 and five bags of rice as immediate relief for the affected families. KTCCI Chairperson Litingse and Secretary Tsalichum along with its members visited the victims and also appealed the authorities to look in to the matter.

According to sources in the Kiphire District Disaster Management Authority, a team visited the village on Monday and assessed the damages. 

A total of seven houses were partially damaged and the roof of the village Sub-centre was blown off, causing damages to some properties in the vicinity. A number of trees also fell; however, no human casualties were reported in the calamity.
