Alder Fest 3.O, an annual feature of Alder College Kohima was held today amidst much gaiety while displaying the talent and creativity of young people. Cosplay Contest, Arm Wrestling Championship, Open Mic, Spicy Noodles Eating Competition, Games and Food Stalls were some of the key highlights of the Fest, that is annually organised primarily to give a platform to young people to showcase their talents.
Formally declaring the Fest Open, Dr Rükhono Iralu, Principal of Alder College, Kohima told the students to have a good time while asserting on the need to have fun responsibly.
Zhapuvi Liegise, Administrator of Alder College, who is also part of the Organising Committee, highlighted to The Morung Express that one of the continuing events of the Annual Fest is the Open Mic. Impressing upon that this has gained a lot of popularity among young people, he said, Open Mic is open to everyone and not just limited to college students.
The Open Mic is a platform for young people to showcase their skills and talents whether it is singing, reading poetry, dancing or exhibiting any other skills.
Zhapuvi Liegise also highlighted that the objective behind the Food Stalls which are run by students, is to build their entrepreneurial skills. Last year, during the 2.O Edition of the Alder Fest, the Peace Channel Club of the college raised money for a cause. With the money generated from the stall, the Club bought essentials for the Good Samaritan Senior Citizen's Home in Kohima. During the visit, the student spent time with the senior citizens and also clipped their nails and trimmed their hair.
While the Alder Fest normally runs for a couple of days, it has been made a one-day affair this year owing to the unpredictable weather.
General Secretary of Alder College, Kohima, K Naophe Konyak, also reiterated that the annual Fest is being organised to give a platform for students. She said that it started in the year 2021 and emphasized that, “it is organised for the people and we want other people also to be part of it.”
Elaborating on the Open Mic, she highlighted that it is open to all and added that most people decide on the spot to participate in it, which adds more flavour to the occasion.
“Even in the coming years, I want people to be part of our festival and celebrate with us. There is so much laughter and fun,” she said.
