KVK Mokokchung launches 200-hour skill training prog for rural youth

Mokokchung, October 10 (MExN): The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Mokokchung, launched a 200-hour skill training programme for rural youth, self-help group (SHG) members from Chuchuyimpang and Alisungkum, and students of Fazl Ali College on October 9 at the Union Baptist Fellowship (UBF), FAC campus.

The programme was chaired by Tangitla, Technical Officer, KVK Mokokchung.

Briefing the participants on the programme, Dr Keviletsu Khate, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Mokokchung, highlighted the importance of skill development, stating that certain skills could not be replaced by artificial intelligence (AI).

Khate said the Kendra had been entrusted by NITI Aayog, Government of India, to conduct the training programme. It will cover different thematic areas, with a focus on developing practical green skills to enable participants to pursue employment, self-employment and entrepreneurial activities while contributing to environmental protection and sustainable rural development.

He said participants were expected to undertake at least one entrepreneurial activity of their choice using the skills acquired during the training.

Highlighting the limited government job opportunities in Nagaland, Khate said it was time for young people to change their mindset and explore alternative livelihood opportunities. He encouraged participants to take initiative at the individual level and make the most of the training programme.

Rev Lima Lemtur, pastor of UBF at the FAC campus, spoke on the importance of livelihood and the church's concern for young people. He urged participants to attend the training regularly and learn the new skills attentively to help address unemployment and improve their livelihoods. He also offered blessings for the successful and smooth implementation of the month-long programme.

The programme was formally launched by Khate.

Dr Sarendi Walling, ACTO (Animal Science), thanked the participants for enrolling in the programme and expressed appreciation to UBF for collaborating with KVK Mokokchung to ensure its successful implementation.
