The Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection (LM&CP), Tuensang, organized a consumer awareness program on Thursday under the theme “Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection: The Journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047.” The event, held at the LM&CP Hall, brought together civil society groups, NGOs, youth organizations and consumers from across Tuensang town.
Delivering the key address, Assistant Controller C. Chullen Chang emphasized the department’s role in ensuring fair access, preventing exploitation, and building trust in trade practices. “The Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection ensures ease of living by protecting purchasing power and guaranteeing value for money,” he said, adding that it safeguards consumers from unfair practices while promoting inclusive growth in line with the vision of Lok Saath, Sabka Vikas and Sabka Vishwas.
Chullen informed participants about redressal mechanisms available to consumers, including approaching the District Consumer Commission or filing complaints through E-Daakhil, an online platform launched under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. He also reminded consumers that they can directly approach the LM&CP department to report defective products or unfair trade practices.
Senior Inspector Er Yemjong B. N. Chang spoke on the department’s functions under the Legal Metrology Act and its rules, outlining how accurate measurement and fair trade standards protect consumers and ensure accountability in the marketplace.
The program began with a welcome address by Chairperson Pewlimew, LDA LM&CP Tuensang, and concluded with remarks by Lemtimong, LDA LM&CP Tuensang. Organizers said the awareness program aimed to empower consumers with knowledge about their rights and available redressal mechanisms, contributing to the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
