Dimapur, October 3 (MExN): The Middle Point Council and the youth, as part of the ‘Joint Colony Councils’ initiative and as responsible citizens are checking the illegal dumping of garbage on roadsides from Clock Tower to Holy Cross police point in Dimapur for the past two weeks in its effort to curb the issue.

The recent incidents of improper waste disposal by irresponsible individuals and business establishments have raised concern among the Council and the youths, it stated in a press release. Recognising the urgency of addressing the issue, the Middle Point Council said it implemented a series of measures aimed at raising awareness and enforcing strict penalties against those found guilty of illegal garbage disposal according to the directions given by the DMC. 

Middle Point Council, Chairman, D Jonah Achumi said that the Council takes immense pride in its cleanliness drive and sustainability efforts. “We believe it is our collective responsibility to ensure that our environment remain free from litter and pollution. Business establishments and residents are urged to cooperate wholeheartedly with the Council's efforts and report any incidences of illegal garbage disposal promptly.”

Further, the Council has asked some business establishments to deploy surveillance cameras in strategic location around the area to monitor the illegal dumping of wastes.
