Ministry mourns demise of three I&B members in Mizoram tragedy

Dimapur, October 2 (MExN): The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has expressed deep grief over the untimely demise of three members of the I&B fraternity who lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Mizoram on October 1. The vehicle carrying the officials plunged into a gorge while they were on official duty.

The deceased have been identified as Dr Engam Pame (IIS), Additional Director General, Press Information Bureau (PIB) and Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Imphal; Nampibou Marinmai (IIS), Director (News), Doordarshan Kendra and All India Radio, Aizawl; and H Lianvela (MTS), CBC Field Office, Aizawl.

Calling the tragedy a profound loss to their respective organisations and the broader public communication sector, the Ministry extended its condolences to the bereaved families.

Dr. Engam Pame, 58, a 1984-batch Indian Information Service officer, held an M.A. in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Over a career spanning more than three decades, he served in Delhi, Imphal, Pune, and Shillong. 

As Additional Director General of PIB Imphal, he played a key role in strengthening media coordination across the Northeast. He was one of the longest-serving Group A Information Service officers from the region and belonged to the Zeme Naga community of Tamenglong district, Manipur. He is survived by his wife, Ajuna Pame, a son, and a daughter.

Nampibou Marinmai served as Director (News) for Doordarshan Kendra and All India Radio in Aizawl, and chaired the Inter Media Publicity Coordination Committee (IMPCC). His career included a tenure as Public Relations Officer with the Ministry of Defence. He is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter.

H Lianvela, 52, who joined government service in 1998, served as an MTS official at the CBC Field Office in Aizawl. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, and a grandson.

Additionally, Gojendra Dey, a driver with the CBC Field Office in Aizawl, sustained injuries in the accident and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital, where he is reported to be conscious and under medical care. 

Liangmai Foundation condoles demises 
Meanwhile, the Liangmai Foundation, in a condolence message, has expressed profound sorrow over their untimely demise, saying their sudden departure was an immeasurable loss to their bereaved families, colleagues, friends and the wider community they served.

It described both Marinmai and Pame as accomplished administrators and committed public servants whose contributions extended beyond their official responsibilities.

“They were respected leaders, repositories of knowledge and experience, and dedicated servants of the nation and the people of Northeast India,” the foundation said.

The foundation extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, relatives, colleagues and all those who had the privilege of knowing and working with the two officials.
