Nagaland Urban Development & Municipal Affairs Advisor, Zhaleo Rio inaugurated Modern College Piphema Campus at Piphema along Dimapur-Kohima 4 lane National Highway on May 8

He also inaugurated botanical garden, academic block, hostel, indoor stadium and later released the college silver jubilee souvenir.

Modern College Piphema campus is spread over 102 acres of land. It lies 22 km from state capital Kohima and around 18 km away from Chümoukedima.

Addressing the inaugural function, Zhaleo thanked the management of Modern College for establishing an institution within Ghaspani-II Assembly Constituency where he represented, terming it as a big relief to many students of the area for pursuing higher studies. Zhaleo lauded the management for placing high standard and modern facility to impart quality education to the students.

He challenged the students to take advantage of the basic infrastructure and make the best use of the modern facilities to excel in their respective field.

“You are the most fortunate students. Study sincerely and earn a good name for the college,” he told the students.

Rio also called upon the students to acquire quality education from this institution and stay connected with capacity building, skill development and ethical values.

Apart from academic knowledge, he told the students to familiarize themselves with the knowledge of socio-economic development, social harmony, tolerance and peace.
 
Dream big
“Dream big. Never have inferiority complex,” Zhaleo told the students and asked them to enhance the level of self confidence.
Rio stressed on the need to change the mindset on notion of educated unemployed youth. He said that there is no dearth of job for those sincere and hard working youth.

In this, he called upon the students to stay focused, dedicated and committed in their approach.

Stating that there are 72,751 applicants remain on the live register of employment exchanges in Nagaland, he maintained that job avenue in the government sector has been limited.

Stressing on the need to foray into private sector, he told the students that there are ample job opportunities beyond Nagaland too.

Pelezetuo Kuotsu, President, Piphema Khenu Kriita Krotho and Zhato Kimho, president, Chakhroma Public Organization shared greetings.

Earlier, welcome address was delivered by Dr Vitsou Yano, principal Modern College while vote of thanks was proposed by Kaikho Losii, development manager, Modern College.

Moarenla Jamir and Urmipem Mokung compered the inaugural function.
 
About Modern College
With a quest and vision to promote quality education, Late Dr S Hekha Mao and his wife A Kaisa established Modern College in 1997.

Pelee Hekha, Managing Director, Modern College said that Modern College has completed 25 years. It functions under Modern Society of Education (MSE) where 3 institutions are running namely; Modern Higher Secondary School from Class Nursery to Class 12 with all the three streams - Arts, Commerce and Science, Modern College which currently offers B.A. and B.Voc. (Bachelor of Vocation) and Modern Institute of Teacher Education (MITE) which offers B.Ed. (Bachelor of Education).

Modern College started on a rented building on the National Highway in Kohima in 1997 as a Pre University (PU) college offering Arts & Commerce then gradually upgraded to B A. offering six departments (Economics, Education, English, History, Political Science & Sociology).

He said that Modern College is the only college in North East to be supported by Botanical Survey of India, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

Today, Modern College, Piphema Campus has Academic Block, Indoor Stadium, 3 Hostels, Botanical Garden, Dairy Farm, fishery pond and Orange Orchard.

 “Modern College will continue to have an Office at Kohima where MHSS now operates and the IGNOU study centre will continue to operate from Kohima office,” he said.

The College is affiliated to Nagaland University and recognized by the UGC under section 2 (f) and 12 (B). It is NAAC Accredited with Grade 'B' and AAA Accredited with Grade 'B+'

The mission of the college is to be a Centre of Excellence for the cause of “True Education.”

The College aim to become an Autonomous College by 2025.
