Mokokchung, September 21 (MExN): Three Ao civil society organisations have given the Nagaland Government time till the end of the academic year 2026 to take concrete action on the rationalisation and recruitment of teachers, including subject teachers, in Mokokchung district, failing which they will be “compelled to take their own course of democratic action.”
In a joint response to the School Education Department’s letter No. DSE/Rationalization/21-6/2026 dated September 2026, the Ao Senden, Watsü Mungdang and Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) acknowledged the Department’s assurance that necessary steps were under process.
However, the organisations reiterated that the shortage and unequal distribution of teachers, particularly subject teachers, continue to adversely affect the education of students across Mokokchung district.
“Considering the urgency of the matter and the larger academic interests of the students, the Ao Senden, Watsü Mungdang, and AKM will wait only until the end of the academic year 2026 for the Department to take concrete and effective action towards addressing the issues raised,” the joint statement said.
They expressed hope that the Government and the School Education Department would utilise this period to implement the necessary measures and ensure equitable distribution and adequate recruitment of teachers in the district.
“If concrete and effective action is not taken by the end of the academic year 2026, the Ao Senden, Watsü Mungdang, and AKM shall be compelled to take their own course of democratic action in the larger interest of the students and the education system in Mokokchung District,” they cautioned.
The statement was signed by Ao Senden President Marsanen Imsong, Watsü Mungdang President Tianaro Jamir and AKM President Lanulemba Longchar.
The organisations urged the concerned authorities to treat the matter with the seriousness and urgency it deserves and take timely action to address the longstanding issues affecting the educational system in the district.
