Mon district administration wins award for response to COVID-19

Mon, May 5 (MExN): The Mon District Administration was awarded Silver at the prestigious SKOCH Awards for ‘Response to COVID-19’ at a function held in New Delhi on April 30.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the District Administration started a slew of measures to contain and prevent the spread of the Virus while at the same time ensuring that the basic services were being delivered to the people at their doorstep.

The public movement permit, home delivery of vegetables, banking services and water, food bank, online e-pass for intra-district movement, active case search strategy and contact tracing, Walk-In Sample Kiosk (WISK), District COVID App, Clappia App, World Help Group App and Geo Fencing are some of the innovations initiated in response to COVID-19 pandemic.

Instituted in 2003, the SKOCH Award is India's highest civilian honour conferred by an independent organisation as a third party assessment. The award recognizes and awards best efforts in the areas of digital, financial and social inclusion. It recognises the best governance practice in the country and provides a platform for the rest of the country to emulate such practices. Since 2003, the SKOCH Awards are considered as the benchmark of best practices in India in the fields of governance, finance, banking, technology, corporate citizenship, economics and inclusive growth.

This is the fourth SKOCH Award for Mon District Administration. In 2020, the SKOCH Award was conferred in three categories: SKOCH Golden Crucible Award for the mission 'Financially Inclusive Mon', SKOCH Order of Merit for its initiative 'District Response to COVID-19'and SKOCH Honourable Mention for the 'Skill Mon Mission'. It is to be noted that there has been no Gold award for COVID-19 response at this year’s SKOCH Awards, Mon Deputy Commissioner (DC) Thavaseelan K informed in a press release on Wednesday.
