Mothers’ protest failure to arrest rape-accused

Dimapur, February 24 (MExN): A women’s organization in Phek, Chokri Area Mothers’ Association has protested against the inaction and failure of the Phek district administration to arrest the person accused of raping a minor on January 3 in Pfutsero this year. The association held a protest rally today in Pfütsero, Phek. The organization submitted a memorandum to the DC of Phek protesting the failure of the administration to capture the accused, Tsahüyo Thira. The organization listed a number of demands seeking justice in the rape case. The memorandum said the Kikrüma Women Welfare society had formally lodged a complaint to the police to arrest the accused Tsahüyo Thira who allegedly raped a minor girl at Kikrüma village on January 3. Subsequently various civil organizations including the Chakhesang Mothers’ Association,
Chokri Area Mothers’ Association and Nagaland State Women Commissioner had repeatedly appealed to the authorities to arrest the accused. “However, even after lapse one and half month the culprit remained at large and thereby continued to create a fear psychosis among the women folk of the area who were even afraid to go to the field as the accused is a habitual offender,” the memorandum stated. The organization stated: “We strongly condemn the apathy of the administration, the village authority and the inefficiency of the police authority.
