MTGBU appeal on requirement of Aadhaar for availing PHH/AAY ration card

Medziphema, September 18 (MExN): The Medziphema Town GB Union (MTGBU) had a deliberation on the requirement of Aadhaar Card for availing PHH/AAY ration card.

While appreciating the government for implementing welfare schemes for the poor and needy, the GBs urged the authorities concerned to consider the practical difficulties faced by the beneficiaries in producing an Aadhaar Card. “It is to be noted that the Aadhaar card is not instantly obtainable,” Medziphema Town GB Union, Secretary, Rokovitso Kuotsu said in a press release. Moreover, to produce the required documents such as PRC/ST/Indigenous Certificates and applicant has to go back to his/her hometown/native village which is time consuming, it added.

“Even after completing all formalities, an applicant has to wait for some days or even months for the Aadhaar card to be generated. The G.B. Union is also of the opinion that if Nagaland government can withhold/postpone the Municipal elections on the ground that it violates Article 371 (A) of the Indian Constitution; it should also do away with the requirement of Aadhaar for the same reasons. Further discussion and suggestions in this regard would be welcomed,” the Union highlighted in the press release.

Therefore, the Union appealed to the government that more time should be granted it all it is to be implemented and not as notified earlier (i.e. September 20, 2017).
