Kohima, November 8 (MExN): Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy CM Y Patton, MP Tokheho Yepthomi and NPCC President K Therie today lauded Dr SC Jamir on being conferred the Padma Bhushan.
Dr Jamir, a five-time Chief Minister of Nagaland and a former Governor of Odisha, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa, received the third-highest Civilian Award in India for 2020 for his work in public affairs from the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind at the Civil Investiture Ceremony-II held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi on November 8.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter thereafter, Rio stated, ‘Congratulations, Dr SC Jamir on being awarded with the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest Civilian Award, for exceptional and distinguished service in the field of Public Affairs. I wish you the very best in all your endeavours.’
Meanwhile, lauding Dr Jamir on being bestowed the ‘much deserved award,’ Patton said that the former’s political career spanning over 60 years and serving the nation in various capacities is no mean feat.
This makes him one of the tallest political figures from North East India, Patton stated in a message via the Media Cell, Dy CMO.
Further noting that the former Chief Minister is the only living member of the erstwhile Interim Body, Patton said that he is fortunate and proud to have been associated with the leader for many years.
The Deputy CM further expressed appreciation to the Government of India under leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for acknowledging the contributions of Dr Jamir.
On behalf of the state BJP legislators, he also congratulated Dr Jamir and wished him good health and long life.
The Nagaland lone Member of Parliament, (Lok Sabha), Tokheho also took to Twitter to congratulate Dr C Jamir.
“Multiple time Chief Minister, Governor of numerous States and above all a true and dedicated worker for Nagaland and India. May God continue to bless him,” he added.
The recognition is indeed genuine and deserving, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) President Therie stated in press release.
“We have all witnessed for the last 70 years how he has tirelessly worked and travelled to all corners of Nagaland,” he said further noting that Dr Jamir has touched all the hearts giving clear directive to the future. It
Calling Dr Jamir a specialist in public affairs, Therie said that the former has ‘steered the ship of Nagaland from the storm.’
“I wish the political problem is resolved during his lifetime. He is a true man of Nagaland who loves Nagaland more than himself. We are deeply proud of him. I can only thank him for what he has done. I wish him a very long life,” he added.
