The Naga Hoho has reaffirmed its commitment to work for reconciliation and unity of the various Naga underground groups “simultaneously” while reasserting its previous stand that it is pro-peace and not partial to any particular organization as being charged. To this, the Naga Hoho has called for right perspective with “political dimension” rather than indulge in mud-slinging.

“At the moment it would be too premature to set up a committee to pursue the reconciliation and unity process but we decided to pursue reconciliation and unity simultaneously” Vice-President of the Naga Hoho Keviletuo Kiewhuo said adding that a peace committee might be set up in near future towards that effect. He informed that the Hoho is formulating plans and assessing the current situations as a base towards that effect.

Responding to charges from certain sections that the apex Naga body is pro-NSCN (IM), the Vice-President strongly maintained that the Hoho is supporting the peace-process and not factions. “As a Naga Hoho we have every individuals and organizations. We remain impartial and the allegation that we are pro-NSCN (IM) holds no water. We support the peace process and ceasefire of both factions with the Government of India, not groups” he said. “We cannot pursue issues in human dimension; we have to see the political dimension too. We need to have the right perspective” he added.

Also, General Secretary Neingulo Krome while reiterating that any solution to the Naga issue within the Indian Union/constitution framework is not acceptable, said that the Hoho is only supporting the peace process. He also said that although no concrete step to be taken has been decided upon, the situation is being assessed as to how the unity-reconciliation process be pursued.

Meanwhile a press statement from Keny Tep, Federal Assembly Secretary, stated that Tribe Hoho/Federating units at the recent Naga Hoho Federal Assembly session expressed their reservation at a settlement within the Indian Union. The members also strongly disapproved the killing among the Naga brethren while blaming the Indian security forces for ‘promoting hatred among the people.’ The tribal Hohos/ Federating units further expressed the need to extend the period of cease fire in order to create conducive atmosphere for the Indo-Naga peace talk. While all the tribal Hohos reaffirmed their support to the peace process, they have also appealed to the Naga leaders to take the people into confidence before any final agreement is signed. The discussion came to a close with a strong feeling for reconciliation and unity among the Nagas and is determined to work on this aspect, it was added.
