Nagaland CEO briefs Electoral Roll Observers

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 5 (MExN): The Chief Electoral Officer, V Shashank Shekhar, IAS held a briefing meeting with Electoral Roll Observers on November 5 at his office chamber in connection with special summary revision of photo electoral rolls with January 1, 2021as the qualifying date. 

The CEO highlighted on the importance of the role played by the Electoral Roll Observers during revision period in ensuring the fidelity of the electoral roll and taking timely corrective measures wherever necessary. He informed that for a free and fair election, an accurate and error-free electoral roll is the most important pre-requisite. 

For enhanced participation of electors in the electoral process and avoiding electoral malpractices, it is essential to improve the registration processes which will in turn increase the fidelity of the electoral rolls, Shekhar said. He expressed confidence that with the active involvement of the Observers in the revision process, the State will have error-free and healthy electoral rolls for conduct of the coming elections. 

The meeting was attended by CEO, V Shashank Shekhar, IAS; N Moa Aier, Additional Chief Electoral Officer; Ruokuovituo Khezhie, Joint Chief Electoral Officer; and Awa Lorin, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer.

A press release from the CEO informed that OT Chingmak Chang, IAS; L Akato Sema, IAS; Anoop Khinchi, IAS; Anenla T Sato, IAS; Vikeyie Kenya, IAS; Kenilo Apon, IAS; and Mohamed Ali Shihab, IAS have been appointed as the Electoral Roll Observers by the Election Commission of India. 

They will be undertaking 3 visits to their respective assigned districts during the period of summary revision till the publication of the final electoral roll.
