The team from Nagaland University at the Pencak Silat All India Inter University Tournament held at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar from January 25 to 27.

Dimapur, January 30 (MExN): In a ground breaking achievement for Nagaland University, Kitenlo K Thono secured a Gold Medal in the Men Tending Event (95-110 kg Weight Category) during the Pencak Silat All India Inter University Tournament held at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar from January 25 to 27.
“This marks the first Gold Medal in any sport in the history of Nagaland University,” PRO In-Charge & Hindi Officer Nagaland University, HQ: Lumami stated in a press release.
The Pencak Silat Team also secured a Silver Medal in the Regu (Team event) through the outstanding performances of Liike Kibami, Hatneimen Khongsai, and Avikali V Sheqi. The team clinched three Bronze Medals in different weight categories: Kevin (90-95 kg) in Tanding, Edwina Lhinghoithem Hanghal in Tungal, and Avikali V Sheqi (65-70 kg) in Tanding.
Dr Harish Kumar Tiwari, Deputy Director of Sports and Team Manager of Pencak Silat Team, commended Kitenlo K Thono and the entire team for their dedication, hard work, and exceptional performance in the tournament. NU Vice Chancellor, Prof Jagadish Kumar Patnaik, Registrar Dr Abemo, Finance Officer, COE, and other members of Nagaland University and Sports Section conveyed their appreciation to the players for bringing honour and recognition to the university through their outstanding achievements.
