Nagaland observes International Day of Girl Child

Dimapur, October 11 (MExN): International Day of Girl Child 2021 was celebrated in Nagaland by organizing relevant programmes in different district headquarters on October 11.

Longleng

Longleng: In Longleng the day was celebrated under the theme ‘Digital Generation, Our Generation’ at Phom Lempong Convention Hall with students and teachers of various schools under the district headquarter on October 11. The programme was organised by Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), District Administration and Mahila Shakti Kendra - District Level Centre for Women (MSK-DLCW), Longleng. 

A DIPR report stated that the Deputy Commissioner, Longleng, M Shayung Phom in his speech, highlighting the importance of women in the modern society, urged the male counterparts to ‘realise and acknowledge the contribution of women in our society by honouring and supporting them with love and care.’

Referring to the theme Phom said, “We are living in a digital world where we have become part of the digital system” and urged upon the students to use it wisely. He also assured to extend all possible help for upliftment of girl child in the district.

Chingmei, EAC, Longleng spoke on the theme while Kezevinuo Thepa, Superintendent, Observation Home Longleng spoke on rights and responsibilities of girl child.

Other highlights of the celebration were special number on BBBP by Government High School, Nyenching; drama on discrimination of girl child in the family and community by St Joseph School, and gender inequality by Christian High School; folk fusion music by Phom Lempong School; cultural dance by Bautung Government Higher Secondary School; poetry slam by Vision Vale School and Shamakok Mission School. Spot painting competition for girl students was also organized later.

Earlier, Good Shepherd School opened the event with choreography and invocation by Fr Daily's Assistant Priest, St Joseph Church. P Phumla Phom, Women Welfare Officer, MSK-DLCW chaired the program and it concluded with song ‘we are the world, we are the children’ by Soul Sisters.

Phek: The District Task Force Phek in collaboration with Phek District Legal Services Authority, Phek Police, Sakhi-One Stop Centre Phek, DLCW-MSK (BBBP) Phek, Child Welfare Committee, Phek Town Chakhesang Students’ Union today observed International Day of Girl Child at Phek town.

Keynote address was delivered by Phulushe Yepthomi, ADC Phek while Samuel Ritse, Public Prosecutor Phek briefed on POSCO Act 2012.

Vesupra Kezo, SP Phek, Wetsho Lasushe, EAC Phek, Khusuzo Khamo, chairman CWC Phek, Vileno Kapu, Women Welfare Officer, DLCW MSK Phek, Beweu Marhu, counsellor Shaki-OSC Phek, Surhoveyi Khesoh, president PTCSU and Vethothi Vero, RL, PDLSA delivered short speech.

During the interactive session, Amit Kumar, IPS, SDPO Phek encouraged the students/children to be vigilant in using social media.

The programme was chaired by Kenei, advocate, PDLSA while vote of thanks was proposed by Cheliam Khiamniungan, secretary PDLSA.

Kohima: Sakhi - One Stop Center (OSC) Kohima in collaboration with Bright Morning Star Children Home (BMSCH) Kohima celebrated International Day of Girl Child at BMSCH Kohima. 

An update informed that Repabenla Longkumer, case worker at Sakhi- OSC gave a brief introduction on Sakhi- One Stop Center and encouraged the boys to support girls and practice equality.

It stated that the programme was chaired by the Probation Officer (PO) of BMSCH, Watisenla wherein the highlight of the programme included talent show and entertainment which was actively participated by the children. 

In the Talent Show competition- Dolensangla (Singing) emerge as the winner while first runner-up was begged by Maria Ashu (Dance) and Second runner-up was won by Nyiemangmongsen Chang (Preaching).

Mon

Mon: Commemorating the International Day of Girl Child, a programme was held at District Hospital in Mon under the theme, ‘Rise up for a better world.’ 

A press release informed that the programme was organised by District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) Mon under the department of Social Welfare, Government of Nagaland in collaboration with Childline and Child Welfare Committee, Mon. 

It stated that the DCPO, Mon and staff handed over tokens to all the patients from 0-18 years of age while wishing them speedy recovery.
