Nagaland Open Top Rope Sport Climbing Competition concludes

Officials along with the participants during the conclusion of the first Nagaland Open Top Rope Sport Climbing Competition held in Dimapur on October 2.

Dimapur, October 4 (MExN): The Nagaland Sport Climbing Association (NSCA) organised the first Nagaland Open Top Rope Sport Climbing Competition, with 120 participants from schools and institutions taking part in various categories.

The competition, held on October 2, brought together young and emerging sport climbers from Nagaland and neighbouring Assam to showcase their skills, determination and passion for the sport.

The programme began with an invocation by Rev Dr Husezo Rakho, followed by welcome and opening remarks by M Ababe Ezung, President of the Nagaland Sport Climbing Association.

Ezung encouraged the participants to give their best and develop discipline and confidence through sport, while pursuing sport climbing with dedication. He also appreciated the participants, schools, parents, officials and others involved in promoting the sport in Nagaland.

Climbers from the Karbi Anglong Mountaineering Association (KAMA) in Assam also participated, providing an opportunity for sporting exchange between the two neighbouring states.

The NSCA said the event was conducted with the support of the technical team, officials, volunteers and organisers, whose efforts helped ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the climbing events.

In the Men’s Open category, Lamche Khiamniungan of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School won the first position, followed by Rohit Chettri of Greenwood Higher Secondary School and Haomingam Chongloi of KAMA.

In the Women’s Open, Lily Khiamniungan of Greenwood Higher Secondary School secured first place, while Imtinaro Aier of AXIS Bank was second and Naro Ronghangpi of KAMA third.

In the Junior Boys category, Lhitite Kapfo and Kenny Kath of Lorna’s Higher Secondary School secured first and second positions respectively, while Asichi Sangtam of Greenwood Higher Secondary School finished third.

In the Junior Girls category, Manjuma Begum of Lorna’s Higher Secondary School won first place, followed by Nimugha Aye of the same school and Isana Zhimomi of Riverbelt School.

In the Sub-Junior Boys category, Relimong and P Chingloi Phom of Riverbelt School secured first and second positions respectively, while Atsase Sangtam of Greenwood Higher Secondary School finished third.

In the Sub-Junior Girls category, Wanloung of Government Middle School, Phapijang, secured first place, followed by Tanngam of the same school. Kinitoli Zhimo of Riverbelt School finished third.

The NSCA said the competition was organised to provide young climbers with a platform to compete, learn and develop their skills, while creating greater awareness and interest in sport climbing in the state.
