With the state steadily making progress in the world of bodybuilding profession, the Nagaland Physique Alliance (NPA) has announced that it will be hosting the third edition of the premier National Physique Committee (NPC) Nagaland Championships from April 4-6 in Dimapur. This was revealed by State Head, Tohovi Achumi during a press conference held at Espace, Duncan Basti Dimapur on January 4. 

With the dates fixed in advance, he said that participants will be able to properly prepare for the next three months. Briefing on the upcoming event, he stated that it will feature bodybuilding, physique, arm wrestling and power-lifting categories for male and female participants. He noted the previous two editions had been a grand success bringing participants from almost all the districts of Nagaland and several of the Northeastern states as well. 

In 2023, two athletes from the state, kevidi Linyii (18 years) and Chathe (16 years) were also able to qualify and win in the NPC National Championships in Punjab. Chathe further qualified and went on to win 3 gold medals in the Sheru Classic Power-lifting competition later that same year. 

This year as well the winners of the State NPC Championship will get the opportunity to compete at the nationals, Achumi added. 

As a body, Tarun Khurana, State Coordinator, mentioned that the NPA strives to hone and nurture the local talents beginning from the grassroots. Due to which they have set their sights on organising competitions right from the district level, with a significant emphasis on scouting youths from schools and colleges. “We all know body building is very expensive as the athletes have to spend a lot of money. As such we are willing to help them with the resources and take care of the potential candidates,” he mentioned. 

Khurana viewed that beyond fitness, bodybuilding has the scope to become a professional career if one is serious and dedicated enough. “This is a very good profession where one can earn a good livelihood.”

In this regard, the NPA encouraged those interested individuals to get in touch with the association.

NPA’s new team of office-bearers 
Kimyeto Agapeto, State Manager meanwhile announced the new team of office bearers for the NPA which will include, Tohovi Achumi, State head, Bendangliba Longkumer, State treasurer, Mhabemo Ezung, State mentor, Andrew Yhome, State legal head, V Tokuto Zhimomi, State media/executive head, N Phutolu Achumi, State advisor and Toluka Ayemi, State mentor. 
In addition, Neithongunuo Rio Achumi, winner of NPC India National Championship 2022 (women’s bikini division) will be its State Ambassador.
