Public funeral tomorrow at Dimapur State Stadium

Yashitsungba Ao, a pioneering businessman and philanthropist from Nagaland, passed away this morning at Eden hospital in Dimapur.
Hailing from Sungratsü village in Mokokchung District, the nonagenarian was a not only a prominent businessman but also well-known for his notable humanitarian works.
The family of the late Yashitsungba has informed that his public funeral service will be held at Dimapur State Stadium (Near Dimapur Government College) on April 4 from 12 Noon.
Among many others, his contributions to health sector are most noted. The Zion Hospital and Research Centre, Dimapur is “a joint venture” between a group of doctors,” representing the Bethel Medical Research Society and Late Yashitsungba and his family.
He is also credited as the brain behind Eden Medical Centre (EMC), which started its operations in May 2015 and officially opened in August 2016. Located in Dimapur, EMC is considered to be the first specialised multi-specialty hospital cancer treatment centre in Nagaland.
Being one of the highest cancer prevalent states in the country, the philanthropist said that it was set up “seeing the increasing number of Nagas suffering from ailments not treatable in Nagaland and also taking into consideration the cost of getting treatment along with the various logistical problems of taking a patient outside of the state for treatment…”
“It is indeed painful to see patients not being able to manage their treatment costs and thereby resigning to the dreaded fate. So, I decided to set up Eden Medical Centre, where premium affordable health care is available to all Nagas at their doorstep,” he had stated in the EMC’s vision statement.
Late Yashitsungba is also known for building numerous churches across the state and for his generous contribution towards other social causes.
CM condoles
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio has expressed his sadness over the demise of Late Yashitsungba and described him as a “pioneering personality” who made significant contributions to Naga society.
“Sad to hear demise of Yashitsungba Ao. Pioneering personality with significant contributions to Naga society. His legacy will remain etched in our history for generations. Condolences to his family and well wishers. May his soul rest in peace. Nagaland has lost a great son,” Rio posted in his its official twitter handle.
