DIMAPUR, APRIL 20 (MExN): Continuing with its ‘War Against Drugs,’ the Nagaland Police on Saturday informed that it has nabbed another drug trafficker into its dragnet.
In a press statement, the Nagaland Police said an ‘important trafficker’ identified as Md Hassan Uddin alias Hasan Mamu running a medical shop in Murgi Patti area of Dimapur has been arrested from Arunachal Pradesh.
It said the Nagaland Police along with Arunachal Police launched a joint operation leading to the arrest of the drug trafficker after learning about the accused being involved in drug trafficking while investigating a different case.
According to the press statement, the accused Hasan used postal delivery system of India Post to send parcels of morphine from Dimapur to West Bengal. The morphine was reportedly sourced from Moreh. Parcels containing 2 kilos of morphine worth 8 crores were seized in Barrakpore, West Bengal in February 2024 by the West Bengal Police, it informed.
It also stated that Hasan Mamu have a history of narcotics related offences along with his brother, one Kamal Uddin besides others.
Stating that drug traffickers has been creating havoc across the state of Nagaland with large number of youths falling victims to drug abuse, the Nagaland Police has requested people to continue to report drug sellers and traffickers to the police and also desist from providing support of any kind to these elements spreading toxin in the society.
It also stated that strict provisions under NDPS Act provide for forfeiture of properties acquired from the profits of drug trade, while cautioning anyone purchasing such property from drug dealers to apply due diligence as these properties are fit to be forfeited in due course of time.
The Nagaland Police, meanwhile, highlighted that while the State’s Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was earlier equipped with a facility for quick analysis of samples of seized drugs, it recently acquired a state of the art 4K Spectral Camera which can help develop and capture fingerprints even on porous surfaces and latent or hidden fingerprints.
