Nagaland records highest GST growth at 37%

Growth much higher than all-India average GST revenue growth of 6.8% for the same period

Dimapur, January 2 (MExN): Nagaland has recorded the highest growth in Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue among all Indian states for the 2025-26 fiscal year up to December 2025, clocking a 37% growth over the same period last year, as per recently released data.

This growth significantly outpaces the all-India average GST collection growth of 6.8% for the period, stated an update issued by the CGST Dimapur Commissionerate.

The surge comes despite the reduction of GST rates on over 375 goods and services as part of the GST 2.0 reforms implemented in September 2025, “rising consumption appears to have led to a boost in tax collection.”

Nagaland has been among the top-performing states in India for GST revenue growth in recent periods, it stated. As a consumer state with a limited industrial base, the destination-based nature of GST has redirected more tax revenue to Nagaland, enhancing its fiscal strength, it noted.

The release noted that the efforts to educate taxpayers and the business community on the importance of timely and ethical tax practices as well as the enhanced enforcement measures put in place have helped boost GST compliance in the state. Furthermore, digitalization of tax processes has improved transparency and streamlined tax filing for businesses, contributing to better compliance, it added.
