Nagaland being a developing state has numerous developmental activities especially in construction sectors and numerous resources like sandstone, marble, limestone etc are plentifully available as such the objective here is to tapped these resources by converting them into useful products like hollow blocks, solid blocks, paver blocks and chequered tiles.

This was stated in the Annual Administrative Report 2022-23 of Nagaland State Mineral Development Corporation Limited (A Government of Nagaland undertaking).

The report stated that the overall objective is to develop a technology platform for the shift from burned clay bricks to manufactured aggregates building blocks based on hard rocks.

“This includes knowledge of locally available resources management, cost effective production, and to provide cheap building blocks in all the districts of Nagaland using locally available raw materials,” the Report stated.

These projects would go a long way in generating employment for the educated unemployed and semi-skilled and skilled labourers in quarrying, production and marketing sectors, the Report stated adding “These projects can also become training ground for an entrepreneur, who desires to hone their skill in production and marketing sectors as well as generate revenue for the state government.”

The project with an estimated amount of Rs 200.00 lakh was proposed to the State Government and accordingly an amount of Rs 200.00 lakh was sanctioned during 2020-22, with the sanction amount the Corporation has purchased the fully automatic block making machine and purchased a quarry on lease for a period of ten years.

However, with the State Governments decision to occupy NSMDC land at the existing Decorative & Dimensional Stone Plant (DDSP) and relocating the entire DDSP to Ganesh Nagar Industrial Estate, the hollow block making unit could not be set up at Chümoukedima and will be set up at the Ganesh Nagar Industrial Estate during 2023-24, the report stated.
