DIMAPUR, July 16 (MExN): Nini Meru, Chairman Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) today refuted media reports given by the Secretary of the Board of School Education Manipur (BSEM), Nandakumar Sharma and stated that it was ‘misleading’ and that the latter had twisted all the deliberations of the 4th zonal meeting of the Council of Boards of School Education in India (COBSE), NE-Zone, which was held recently on July 14 last at Guwahati and that the reports were all made-up to suit his (Nandakumar Sharma) own purposes.
In a clarification note, addressed to the Chairman of BSEM, Imphal, the NBSC chairman has elucidated that the meet was specifically called to discuss the directives issued by the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) to the State Councils of Educational Research and Training (SCERTs) in preparing the curriculum, syllabus and text books which were under the purview of the School Boards and Higher Secondary Councils.
Reacting to what was quoted as saying by the Secretary of BSEM that the meeting was ‘unanimous that no text books prescribed by the Nagaland Board should be taught in Manipur’
Meru stated that the only resolution passed during the meeting was to be firm in upholding the primary policy of the Ministry of Human Resources and development (MHRD) and also the school boards (and higher secondary councils) should be responsible for all spheres relating to school education and not just to be a mere examining body. The meeting also decided that a delegation led by Nini Meru shall be constituted to meet with the authority and deliberate on ‘the board responsibilities’ issue.
“No other decrees, decision, commitments or statements were made or passed in this meeting” added the clarification note.
The only press note issued by the COBSE (NE-Zone) was a condolence message towards the human loss and injuries sustain during the recent twin bomb blasts in Mumbai and Srinagar. Nandakumar Sharma has no authority to issue any kind media reports on behalf of the Boards of School Education and stated that the BSEM Secretary ‘has gone beyond the decorum’.
“It is a privilege when institution from different parts of the country request affiliation to a board for it is an indication of the board’s high standard and status” the note further stated.
