The 3rd Winter Open Airgun Shooting competition organised by the Airgun Sporting association of Nagaland was held at Likya community hall, Wokha on December 8. The programme was graced by Lt Col DS Kushwah, Second in Command 40 Assam Rifle as the Chief Guest of the event.

The event witnessed the participation of 28 skilled shooters, with Nchumbemo Patton emerging as the champion. Mhathung Murry was the first runner-up, and Yibomo Odyuo securing the second runner-up spot. The event also witnessed 7 consolation prizes, while certificates and souvenirs were presented to all the participants.

While addressing the gathering, Lt Col DS Kushwah, Second-in-Command 40 Assam Rifles, congratulated all the participants and urged them to spread about such events to the people around them as this kind of sports event creates positivity in the environment as well as the society. Taking example of Manipur who brought so much laural to the state and the country through sports, he asserted that Nagaland also possess talented people in sporting and athlete and advised the members of Airgun Sporting Association of Nagaland (ASAN) to encourage people to participate more of this kind of sports, representing the state and brings laurel for the state and the country. 

He also encouraged all the participants to join the armed forces, mentioning about the best available institutes for the armed forces such as the Army Institute, Army sports Institute of Pune. 

Earlier, ASAN President Ajamo Odyuo, in his welcome addressed highlighted on the remarkable achievements during the 1st and the 2nd Winter Shooting Competitions. He noted that during the 1st winter shooting competition, the runner-up secured a bronze at the Nagaland Olympics and the winner of the 2nd Winter Shooting Competition, hosted by ASAN, is now participating at the national level. 

Later, Planning and Coordination Secretary, Chenithung Yanthan while delivering the vote of thanks extended his gratitude to the chief guest for gracing the programme by his presence despite his busy schedule. He also thanked Wokha DC, Ajit Ranjan Kumar for extending his help whenever the association approached him. He also thanked the sponsors for sponsoring the volunteers t-shirts and prizes for the raffle draw.
