Nearly 29% of Nagaland’s population now live in urban areas: Governor

Nagaland Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla said that Nagaland continue to see rapid urbanization in the state with more than 28.86 % of population living in the urban areas.

The Department of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs under SASCI Part V for the year 2024–25 is undertaking 12 infrastructure projects including construction of market complex-cum-ULB office buildings in various Urban Local Bodies. Under the 15th FC Untied Grants, various infrastructure works such as roads, drains, retaining walls and footpaths have been undertaken by the ULBs.

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0 Mission is proposed to be implemented in all 39 statutory towns in the State.

He said that the government has taken decisive steps to strengthen the industrial ecosystem and deepen entrepreneurship across the State.

In collaboration with DPIIT, our registered startups have generated over 1,500 jobs and recorded an estimated turnover of Rs.73.80 crore in the last financial year.

Today, the Startup Nagaland portal hosts 384 startups and aspiring enterprises.

“I am proud to share that Nagaland has been placed in the 'Leaders' category under the State Ranking Framework by DPIIT, and ranked 3rd among Small States in the Export Preparedness Index 2024 released by NITI Aayog in January 2026. Nagaland has also become the first State in the North East to adopt the Unified Logistics Interface Platform in September 2025, enabling streamlined supply chains and reduced logistics costs,” Bhalla said.

The Centre of Excellence in Industry 4.0 – Srujan was inaugurated at the Nagaland Tool Room and Training Centre, Dimapur, under the CSR initiative of Bharat Forge Ltd.

NTTC continues to strengthen skill development in partnership with the Indian Army and has launched an international employment initiative with Germany. Further, 8,981 MSMEs have also been onboarded under the RAMP Scheme through UDYAM registration drives.

In order to further promote ease of doing business, enhance transparency and strengthen digital governance, the Labour Department has launched an online system for labour law services on 18th November 2025.

The Government has designated the Department of Information & Public Relations as the Nodal Department for leading the State's Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics & Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) in 2025.

This sector has seen steady growth and holds significant potential to drive economic growth, promote cultural heritage and ties, and create quality employment.

The Governor addressed the 8th session of 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) in Kohima on March 2.
