Dimapur, August 30 (MExN): Chingthur Foundation held its first Internship Completion Programme at its Agroforestry Training Centre, Karagaon, marking an initiative to promote practical, field-based learning in sustainable agriculture, agroforestry and appropriate technology.
The three-month internship was undertaken by Kevizhapu Terhuja and Keneisebei Meyase of North East Christian University (NECU). The interns received hands-on exposure to sustainable farming practices and locally adaptable appropriate technologies under the guidance of Lungaithui Malangmei, Programme Manager, Chingthur Foundation.
Malangmei has undergone training at the Asian Rural Institute (ARI), Japan, and ECHO Asia, Thailand.
Welcoming the gathering, Dingshungngamang Kamei, Executive Director, Chingthur Foundation, thanked NECU for choosing the Foundation as a field-learning partner and expressed hope for continued collaboration to equip young learners and contribute to rural communities.
Malangmei presented a report on the internship, while the interns shared their reflections on the learning experience.
Pesha Khiamniungan, Chairman, Chingthur Foundation, encouraged the interns to remain humble, continue learning and put their acquired knowledge and skills to meaningful use.
Vizeto Kin, Registrar, NECU, commended the interns for their perseverance and appreciated the Foundation for providing practical exposure and connecting them with wider learning networks such as ECHO and ARI. He also stressed the importance of environmentally responsible and land-conscious practices.
The interns were presented with completion certificates during the programme.
The Foundation said the completion of its first internship programme marked a step towards developing more field-based learning opportunities for young people committed to sustainable livelihoods, environmental stewardship and community development.
