Guwahati, October 19 (MExN): Two new train services under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) were flagged off on October 19 along with extension of services of one train upto Silchar and another upto Agartala.
Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and Tripura Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha were present at Guwahati and Agartala Railway Stations respectively during the flagging programmes while the Union Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology virtually joined the events.
In Guwahati, Sharma flagged off the tri-weekly train no.15617/15618 (Guwahati – Dullabcherra - Guwahati Express) from Guwahati Station in the presence of Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, NFR General Manager, along with senior railway officials of the NFR Headquarters.
The regular service Guwahati–Dullabcherra -Guwahati) Express will run on Monday, Wednesday & Saturday from October 21, informed a press release from NFR. The train will leave Guwahati at 10PM reach Dullabcherra at 9:45AM the next day. In return journey the train will depart at 11:10AM on Tuesday, Thursday & Sunday from Dullabcherra and reach Guwahati at 11:15 PM, the same day.
This new train will be the first direct train service between Guwahati and Dullabcherra bordering Mizoram, the NFR informed.
Meanwhile, Tripura CM Saha flagged off the extension of train no. 12519/12520 (Lokmanya Tilak Terminus– Kamakhya - Lokmanya Tilak Terminus) Express upto Agartala and a new service of daily DEMU train no. 07688/07687 (Agartala – Sabroom - Agartala) from Agartala Railway Station. He also inaugurated an escalator at the Agartala station.
The train No. 12519/12520 will commence its regular journey from October 22 and the extension of this train service will connect capital of Tripura with Western part of India i.e. Mumbai, the NFR said.
The regular service of Agartala – Sabroom - Agartala daily DEMU Special will also commence from October 20.
Meanwhile, Train no. 12514/12513 (Guwahati – Secunderabad - Guwahati) Express which was extended upto Silchar was also flagged off from Silchar Railway Station on Thursday. It will commence its regular journey from October 21.
The introduction of new trains and extension of services are in line with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to improve rail connectivity between various parts of North-East states with major and important cities of India, the NFR release maintained.
MPs, MLAs, senior railway officials of division and other state dignitaries were present during the flagging off ceremony at different stations, it added.
