Dimapur, October 13 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) has condemned two reported drone attacks in Myanmar’s Naga region, including a strike on a residence in Langkho village on October 3 and another attack on Mt Horeb Camp on October 11.
According to the NSCN (IM), the October 3 strike targeted the residence of NSCN-K (Yung Aung) Brigadier Akham Konyak and resulted in the deaths of two civilians.
It also claimed that approximately 60 explosive devices were dropped during the reported drone attack on Mt Horeb Camp in Myanmar’s Naga Self-Administered Zone in the early hours of October 11.
In a press release issued through its Ministry of Information and Publicity (MIP), the NSCN (IM) called for a transparent, impartial and credible investigation into the incidents to identify those responsible and ensure accountability.
Expressing solidarity with the Naga people across political boundaries, the organisation said lasting peace could not be achieved through the destruction of camps or the political marginalisation of a people. It called for dialogue as the primary means of resolving differences.
In the same press release, the NSCN (IM) categorically denied any involvement in the reported attack on Mt Horeb Camp.
“It is categorically stated that the NSCN/GPRN had no role, whether direct or indirect, in the planning, authorisation, or execution of the said attack,” it asserted.
It further stated that no personnel, equipment or aerial assets under its command or control had been deployed in the vicinity of the location on the date of the incident.
“Any claim or insinuation to the contrary is without foundation, misleading, and is unequivocally rejected,” the NSCN (IM) added.
