Medziphema, October 11 (MExN): Nagaland University’s Medziphema Campus organised an investor awareness session on financial markets and fraud prevention in collaboration with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) India Limited.
The Department of Rural Development and Planning organised the interactive programme titled “Regional Investor Seminar for Awareness on Navigating the Financial Markets: Awareness, Inclusion & Fraud Prevention” to promote financial literacy, encourage informed investment decisions and sensitise participants to fraudulent investment schemes.
Prof. Jayanta Choudhury, Head of the Department of Rural Development and Planning, welcomed the SEBI and NSE representatives and highlighted the importance of financial awareness, particularly among young people engaging with digital financial services and investment opportunities.
Prof. Dipak Sinha, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University, Medziphema Campus, addressed the programme and highlighted the role of financial education in promoting responsible investment behaviour and improving understanding of the opportunities and risks associated with financial markets.
During the technical session, Akshay Kumar Singh, Assistant General Manager, SEBI, Kolkata, provided an overview of the securities market and discussed the importance of investor awareness in making informed financial decisions.
Abhishek Singh, Manager, NSE, Kolkata, conducted a session on scams and fraud prevention, focusing on identifying fraudulent investment schemes, exercising caution when responding to investment offers and adopting safe practices when participating in financial markets.
An interactive question-and-answer session allowed participants to seek clarifications on securities markets, investment awareness and fraud prevention. The discussion highlighted the importance of verifying investment information, understanding financial risks and relying on credible sources before making investment decisions.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Varun Singh, Deputy Manager, NSE, Kolkata, who acknowledged the university administration, representatives of SEBI and NSE, and the participants.
