NWA announces Naga Wrestling C’ship 2022 on Feb 28

The Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) is all set to conduct the 28th Naga Wrestling Championship 2022 cum 2nd Under 16 wrestling on February 28 at Khuochiezie (Kohima Local Ground).

18 top wrestlers each from three NWA units- Angami Sports Association, Chakhesang Wrestling Association and Zeliang Wrestling Association will vie for coveted title, said NWA president Dr  Hiabe Zeliang while addressing a press conference here at Dr Talimeren Conference Room of Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) office complex.

The champion will fetch a cash prize of Rs3.20 lakh along the champion belt including Velahu Puro Memorial Trophy along with Rs 30,000.

The 2nd position will receive a cash award of Rs 2.20 lakhs while 3rd position will get Rs 1.20 lakh and 4th position at Rs 1 lakh.

Losing quarter finalists will get Rs 25,000 each.

All the participants who have not received any prize will get a participation allowance of Rs 4000 each.

Eight wrestlers each from three units will vie for top honours in Under 16 category.

In this category, the champion will receive Rs 60,000, 2nd- Rs 40, 000, 3rd- Rs  30,000 and 4th position at Rs 25,000.
All the participants who could not figure in the prize winning list will receive Rs 3000 each.

Any student Under 16 category who make to quarter final level will be provided with a scholarship of Rs 1000 per month for a year.

Pesocha Baptist Thepfiiko Krotho Kohima will assist the meet as the ground management.

In regard to entry tickets, donor (Admit One) have been fixed at Rs 3000, chair (Ist row) at Rs 1000 and 2nd row onwards at Rs 500.

Gallery ticket has been fixed at Rs 150.

MLA Kiizholiizo (Azo) Nienu will be the inaugural guest while Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will be the special guest.

Meanwhile, NWA has granted provisional affiliation to Wokha District Wrestling Association (WDWA).
