OKM adopts Vision 2045 and Language Preservation resolutions

The 39th general conference of the Ongpangkong Kaketshir Mungdang (OKM) concluded on January 19 at Küpza village, Mokokchung under the theme ‘Liberated Education,’ with Advisor for Minority Affairs & Sericulture, Nagaland, Imkongmar, as the guest of honour.

Imkongmar advised the students in his speech to be visionaries who achieve their goals by dedication and by putting everything they learned and were taught in the conference into practice. Furthermore, he encouraged all guests to identify their strengths and contribute to the advancement of Ongpangkong and the Aos. He also questioned the attendees, “What can you contribute in leading the Aos towards progress and development?” 

During the closing session of the 39th general conference, the Ongpangkong Kaketshir Mungdang also adopted two resolutions to adopt the “OKM Mission Vision 2045,” a 20-year initiative aimed at supporting brilliant students from economically weaker sections of society. The initiative is set to commence in 2025, with the year 2024 serving as the preparatory year. To activate this initiative, every student from Ongpangkong who has reached the age of 18 shall contribute a one-day-wage sum towards the “seed money” for the stated initiative.

The conference resolved to continue and further pursue the ongoing OKM Mother Language Preservation Program to preserve Ao identity and language, and in support of Ao Senden and Ao Riju, OKM will strive to have the Ao language recognised under the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. 

The conference nominated a new team of office bearers and an executive council to lead the organization. The newly appointed officials of OKM are as follows: President - Tongpangmangyang (Chungtia); Vice-president - Chubawati M Longkumer (Longkhum); General Secretary - Sungkumchung (Aliba); Assistant General Secretary - Sensomeren (Kinunger).

The 39th Ongpangkong Students’ General Conference closed with a act presented by Fazl Ali College Students’ Union, Mokokchung. 

The 40th Ongpangkong General Conference will be hosted at Longsa village, in the year, 2027.
