The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a new team of national office bearers under party President Nitin Nabin on August 17. This major organisational reshuffle includes 13 national vice-presidents, eight national general secretaries and 16 national secretaries.
Member of Rajya Sabha from Nagaland, S Phangnon is among the 16 national secretaries and one of the four women who were appointed in this regard. The other women national secretaries include Kavita Patidar from Madhya Pradesh, Sangeeta Yadav from Uttar Pradesh and Dr Swadesh Singh from Delhi.
S Phangnon expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and the National President, Nitin Nabin on ‘X’ for reposing their faith in her and giving her the responsibility to serve the party as National Secretary of BJP.
“I look forward to the guidance and support of all our leaders and karyakarta’s as we work together for the world’s largest political party and for the nation,” the post further read.
BJP Nagaland State President, Benjamin Yepthomi also took to social media on ‘X’ to congratulate her and said, “This is a proud moment for Nagaland and the entire Northeast.”
He said that Konyak’s dedication, commitment and exemplary leadership have been recognised at the national level and further wished her every success as she takes on the new responsibility. “May you continue to inspire and serve the party and the nation with distinction”, he added.
Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland, Y Patton also wished her every success in her new responsibility and exuded hope that her experience, dedication and commitment would contribute greatly to the party and to the service of the people.
The current reshuffle, however, marks a smaller national-level representation for Nagaland compared to the BJP’s 2020 organisational rejig under then-President JP Nadda. In September 2020, former Nagaland BJP president M Chuba Ao was appointed National Vice-President, while then Nagaland MLA Mmhonlumo Kikon was appointed National Spokesperson.
Kikon subsequently resigned from the BJP and all party posts in August 2025, ending his tenure as National Spokesperson.
Meanwhile, Nabin has appointed 13 National Vice-Presidents, including Vasundhara Raje Scindia, Tirath Singh Rawat, Ram Madhav, Baijayant Jay Panda, Sardar Manpreet Singh Badal and Rekha Verma.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal has been appointed National Treasurer, while BL Santhosh has been retained as National General Secretary (Organisation).
Eight party leaders have also been appointed National General Secretaries, including Vinod Tawde, Sunil Bansal, Smriti Irani and Biplab Kumar Deb. Sambit Patra has been retained as the BJP’s North-East Coordinator.
Among other changes, Deepak Mhaskey was appointed the head of the BJP’s Social Media Department, taking over from longtime in-charge Amit Malviya.
