Mokokchung Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a minor and arrested one person in the case.
Police sources said the incident was reported to have occurred on February 16, following which the accused, identified as the minor’s father, was taken into custody on the evening of February 17.
Investigations are currently underway.
A police official confirmed that various reports are being awaited and that the authorities are taking the matter seriously, with necessary stakeholders being involved in the process.
Citing legal provisions that safeguard the identity and privacy of the minor, police declined to disclose further details.
